Immediate disclaimer: I’m an Edgar Martinez fan. I’m a sucker for the guy. I know he was “only” a designated hitter and that he didn’t contribute as much as others did. I don’t care. The dude belongs in the baseball Hall of Fame. But I do think there should be some new rules about getting into the hall, considering who’s not there right now and should be.

For some of us, 2008 was a year of pain — and it had nothing to do with political campaign ads.

I had to split my attention between last night’s BCS championship football game and Sequim-Port Angeles wrestling. I nearly got the best of both worlds.

Normally I don’t care to comment on the national sports scene, but tomorrow’s BCS Bowl Championship game pitting Oklahoma and Florida has my piqued my interest. I want to be able to say I’ve seen a national champion in person.

Although the a prep tournament in Vancouver, Wa., kept some of the Rainshadow Tournament regulars from attending last weekend’s grappling gauntlet in Sequim, locals got a treat with some good, quality wrestling and some outstanding efforts. For Wolves fans, they had to be happy to see Sequim take second place.

Sports fans are like geeky uncles. Seems like every family has one and even though they’re obnoxious and overbearing at times, they make you smile with their over-the-top candor about how much they love their team/sport/sporting god.

Basketball overtime thrillers ... football playoff heartbreak ... soccer heroics... Sequim sports has had it all. What's the best Sequim sports game of all time?
