Did the World Baseball Classic kill pitchers' arms?

I heard an interesting stat the other day about Red Sox ace Daisuke Matsuzaka, about the terrible year he’s been having after a phenomenal 2008. The radio jock was saying this guy hasn’t been the same since pitching the World Baseball Classic in March.

Sounders win! Sounders win!

Forgive me for being a little excited, but my first Seattle Sounders game on Sunday afternoon was pretty sweet.

Mariners win one for me, dad and us dads

An open letter to the Seattle Mariners...

Rock stars = Little League sponsors?

I cannot make this kind of stuff up. I’ve tried.

This NBA draft may be one to forget

Memo to 1986: sorry, but we’re stealing your NBA draft.

Think your track team is good?

I came across this in the Seattle P-I. Yes, the P-I “paper” still exists. Columnist Jim Litke came across this story about a Texas track athlete who, frankly, is doing something I never thought possible.

Wolves playing on another level

With the culmination of another prep year, it’s time to look at where some former Sequim High School athletes have managed to continue their athletic endeavors.

How does Sequim match up with the Olympic League?

I did this number comparison two years ago, when Sequim High and other peninsula prep teams got shuffled back into the newest version of the Olympic League. Time to update.

Where have all the 5Ks gone?

I’m not a sentimental guy, particularly about sports. Just because I get a little teary at the end of Field of Dreams doesn’t mean I’m given to getting all mushy at the drop of a batting helmet.

Ex-Mariners make a nice fantasy-fantasy baseball team

If you’re like me, you like baseball but don’t have the time (or geekiness) to start and maintain your own fantasy baseball team. Then again, if you’re like me, you have 12 stories to write by Monday morning, writer’s block and a headache akin to a vice on the noggin, so maybe fantasy baseball isn’t a priority right now.

Could this be the worst — or best — Father’s Day gift ever?

Sorry for the hyperbole, but this came across my desk a couple of days ago and I had to share.

Busy weekend for Sequim sports

I’m headed for Yelm tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

Could Peninsula College add a sports team?

In these troubled economic times, when college and universities are cutting back athletic programs like last year’s fashions, it might seem odd that Peninsula College look into adding a sports team.

Voters save P.A. pool

Officials from the Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center must be breathing a sigh of relief today.

Speedway hosts food drive

This came across the old sports desk a little late Monday, but thought it should get a mention somewhere.

Is Seattle soccer filling the void?

At best, I’ve got a passing interest in professional soccer. But the Seattle Sounders FC? Yeah, I’m willing to jump on this bandwagon.

For football-rabid fans, the Wolves’ 09-10 schedule

This might look a little familiar.

Anyone watching the second round of NBA playoffs?

Thanks to Clay Bennett and the Oklahoma City Swindlers, I continue my ban on watching any NBA games on television. Which means I catch all the highlights a day later.
