The NBA season is upon us. Did anyone around here notice?
From my pal — and former Sequim Gazette editor — Dan Ross, comes some wacky and obscure bits from the National Basketball Association's 2009-10 season's rosters:
"Here we go with our annual installment of how the heck did this guy make an NBA roster, Version 2009? ...
First team G. Rodrigue Beaubois, Dallas Mavericks (Oklahoma City drafted him in the first round and waived him) G. Romel Beck, Houston Rockets (a 27-year-old rookie from UNLV) C. Kyrylo Fesenko, Utha Jazz (from that powerhouse of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) F. Rod Benson, New Jersey Nets (dude is from Fairfield, Calif. — ‘nuff said?) F. Trey Gilder, Memphis Grizzlies (props for his school, Northwestern State)
Second team G. Dionte Christmas, Philadelphia 76ers (the name is enough for me) G. Roko Ukic, Milwaukee Bucks (I think I sprained my Ukic while walking the dog) C. Hamed Haddadi, Memphis Grizzlies (averaged less than one field goal per game played last year) F. Alando Tucker, Phoenix Suns (This dude is in his second year?) F. Marcus Williams, San Antonio Spurs (no, the other Marcus Williams, he of the three-spot who has yet to try a trey in his career)
All-Name team Luc Richard Mbah a Moute Pops Mensh-Bonsu DJ Mbenga Oleksiy Pecherov Joe Smith"
Ah, yeas, obscurity in the NBA. Makes me wish Uwe Blab was still playing...
