Sorry for the hyperbole, but this came across my desk a couple of days ago and I had to share.

Yournovel.com is selling this idea: your dad as the protagonist, the star of his own golf epic.

Here’s the opening of the press release verbatim:

“Golfers the world over dream of playing in a major tournament, and many dream of playing it at one of golfing’s standout locations: the beautiful Sandhills of North Carolina. Now, Dad can do both this Father's Day, thanks to YourNovel.com, by taking on the starring role, along with his real-life sweetie, in his own personalized golf novel set in North Carolina.”

The book project, called “Sandhills Fore-Play,” is the brainchild of husband/wife writing combo J.S. Fletcher and Kathy M. Newbern who started yournovel.com in 1992.

Their site allows any couple to star in their own personalized romance novel, including “wild” and “mild” variations.

With the golf novel, the duo now claims 25 different personalized novels.

“Each year,” Fletcher said, “we come up with new books. This time, we thought, why not write a North Carolina golf novel that any golfer can star in?”

To customize their book, couples fill out an online questionnaire of 26 details about themselves: names, hometown, where they work, eye and hair color, best friends, favorite perfume, cologne and music, affectionate nicknames for one another, how long they’ve been a couple, etc.

Paperbacks range from 150-190 pages and start at $39.95. Hardbacks range from 200-230 pages and start at $85. Photos added to the cover are an additional $25.

I can’t make this stuff up.

I think I’ll give dad a barbecue apron or something…
