Jr. Babe Ruth time
Sign-ups and tryouts for Sequim Jr. Babe Ruth will be held 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 6, at the Sequim High School baseball fields, 601 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.
Summer baseball is over for four players from Sequim after the Wilder Baseball Club went 2-2 at the Washington State Senior Babe Ruth Tournament in Ephrata.
With a little luck, Wilder might have swept their visiting foes from Aberdeen. As it was, the local all-star baseball squad will have to settle for two of three as they battled a solid team from Washington’s southwest on Saturday and Sunday.
A couple of Pirates were named to the NWAACC North Region’s all-star team last week. It’s an honor to be sure, but chances are they’d trade it in for their team to be back on the field next spring.
Got a note recently from a true-blue Mariners fan from Sequim — Randy Perry. You may know him as your friendly neighborhood shoe repairman, or the high school bowling coach, or coach of one youth sports team or another.
At the time, Oklahoma was the third-ranked team in the country. I knew they were good. The Huskies knew they were good. The Sooners definitely knew they were good.
