Parks celebrates opening of Agnew fields today

The Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities group invites the public to celebrate the grand opening of the Agnew Soccer Fields from noon-12:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The soccer fields, located at the southeast corner of Olympic Highway and North Barr Road between Sequim and Port Angeles, are collectively the newest Clallam County park. A $205,500 matching grant from the state Recreation and Conservation Office enabled Clallam County to buy the 7.4-acre soccer fields this summer.

Kaps golf tourney set

The Rick Kaps Scholarship Scramble is set for Friday, Nov. 27, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Donations and a percentage of green fees go to providing scholarships to several Sequim High School seniors.

Format is a four-person scramble with three divisions. Play begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

Cost is $220 per team (or $55 per player) with optional honey pot. Included in the price is a T-shirt, a meal provided by Captain Henry and a scholarship donation.

2009 Winterfest event is this weekend

The 2009 Winterfest, featuring dinner, a ski movie and ski swap is slated for Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21, at the Vern Burton Center, Third and Francis streets in Port Angeles.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Winterfest kicks off with a prime rib dinner and the latest Warren Miller ski film, "Dynasty." The Port Angeles Jazz Band provides music. Cost is $40. Each ticket buyer receives a $10 gift certificate to Wilderness Outdoor Store in Port Townsend.

On Saturday is the ski swap. Admission is $3 per person or $7 per family. Drop off gear to sell/trade between 8:30-11 a.m. Return at noon to shop or swap until 4 p.m. That night is a 7 p.m. viewing of "Dynasty" for $10 each.

Wall sinks second ace

Kevin Wall of Sequim sank his second lifetime hole-in-one, achieving the feat Nov. 3 at The Cedars at Dungeness.

Wall used a 6-iron to drive the 150-yard hole No. 17 for his second ace, both coming at The Cedars.

"The first (ace) was between me and God," he said. "This one, I had witnesses."

Earl Bergman, Pat Lauerman and Mike Sutton, all from Sequim, witnessed Wall's feat.



Indoor soccer leagues planned

Officials are accepting registration forms for the annual Peninsula College indoor soccer league that starts in January.

The league features three divisions: one for competitive players, one for recreational players and a women-only division.

Games are five-on-five with two, 25-minute halves. Games are played Sunday afternoons (or Monday nights, if needed) at the Peninsula College gym, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., from Jan. 10-March 14, 2010.

Cost is $30 per player or $225 per team.

Applications and fees must be received by Dec. 30.

Touchdown Club to help football program

The Sequim High School's football boosters are asking for public support by way of the Touchdown Club, a program that assists the football program with purchasing new uniforms, helmets and safety equipment.

With four levels of sponsorship - white, black, purple and gold - club organizers ask supporters to donate a dollar amount per touchdown scored this season. White level sponsorship pledges $5 per touchdown; black, $10; purple, $25; and gold, $50.

Donations, made through the Sequim Schools Athletic Booster Club, are tax-deductible (tax ID:91-1885052).
