Youth volleyball

club hosts tryouts

The Peninsula Team Turbo Volleyball Club, entering its sixth season of competitive play, hosts tryouts for its youth girls (ages 8-18) program from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Port Angeles High School gym, 304 E. Park Ave.

League age is based on age on Sept. 1, 2010. Tryout fee (nonrefundable) is $20.

The new season begins the last part of November and runs through March.

Locals score well in NFL competition

Krista Johnson of Neah Bay was the top scorer in the girls 14-15 division of the 2009 Punt, Pass and Kick Sectional Competition in Kent on Oct. 25, one of several locals competing for top prizes.

Johnson now has to wait to see if her score is one of the top four among the Sectional winners to advance to the team championship at Qwest Field in Seattle. Winners from the team event advance to a national event.

Port Angeles had a couple of second-place finishers in the competition. Lenora Hofer took second place in the girls 12-13 division, while Riley Cowan finished second out of 14 contestants in the boys 8-9 division.



Ski club hosts meeting

The Olympic Peninsula Ski Club hosts an organizational meeting from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the

Sequim Library meeting room, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

The club is open to adult snow enthusiasts who would like to join others in the enjoyment of snow activities on and off the peninsula.

Kayakers to talk

marine mammals

Richard Osborn, salmon restoration coordinator for Clallam County, is scheduled to speak at the Nov. 11 meeting of the Olympic Peninsula Paddlers.

The 7 p.m. meeting is at Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Osborn is slated to give a presentation about marine mammals that kayakers might encounter while paddling in the Strait of Juan De Fuca and Puget Sound.

Basketball clinic slated

A YMCA youth basketball skills clinic for boys and girls in grades 1-8 is slated for 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St., Port Angeles.

Cost is $5, payable the day of the camp; non-YMCA players are welcome.

The Peninsula College men and women Pirate basketball players host the annual clinic. Head coaches Peter and Julie Stewart run the clinic.

Participants are urged to bring their own basketball.

Volleyball tournament set in P.A.

The first North Pole Coed Volleyball Tournament is slated for Dec. 6 at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.

The tourney is for six-on-six, coed teams for A- and B-level teams.

Cost is $120 per team; fee includes T-shirts. Proceeds help support the Port Angeles High School volleyball program.

Maximum number of teams in the tourney is 16.
