It took one game for Sequim's volleyball squad to realize Port Townsend wasn't going down easily.

The Wolves shrugged off a first-set loss to top the Redskins 17-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-11 on Sept. 24, improving their Olympic League mark to a perfect 4-0 heading into Tuesday night's game at North Kitsap.

"We started very slow and we were not passing well," Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. "Port Townsend was working harder than we were. At least we got our act together and started playing better."

Maddy Zbaraschuk had nine kills while Sierra Clark and Caitlin Pallai had eight kills each to pace the attack. Jessica Lauritzen added seven kills and three blocks in the win.

Sara Hankins led the passing game with 18 assists and was 12-of-13 serving with a team-high five assists.

Sequim's JV squad won in two sets (25-18, 25-6).

The Wolves also competed at the Mark Morris Tournament in Longview last weekend - results were not available at press time.

Following Tuesday's match-up with North Kitsap, the league's other undefeated squad, Sequim travels to Bremerton on Oct. 6 and hosts Port Angeles on Oct. 8.

Bucs stop here -

and lose

A win is a win, but

Sequim's coach said last Tuesday's victory against Kingston was far from perfect.

"We won the match but did not meet our serving and passing goals," Webber Heilman said following the Sept. 22 win in three sets.

Sequim topped the visiting Buccaneers 25-16, 25-12 and 25-19.

"We need to pick up the pace of our games and not let the other teams we play affect how we play out on the court," she said.

Zbaraschuk led the Wolves with seven kills while Pallai added five kills and three blocks.

Taylor Balkan led

Sequim's serve attack with a perfect 15-of-15 from behind the service line, but Sequim finished 59-of-74 overall (79.7 percent).

Pallai and Sarah Donahue had four aces each; Balkan added two.

Clark added nine digs and three kills.

"Sierra has been contributing both on offense and defense," Webber Heilman said.

For those of you keeping up with the blog, I’ve posted a few times about my favorite Sequim prep games these last 10 years. I was thumbing through the old files for this one, and thought it might be fun to revisit one of SHS’s best football games of all time.
