Too many tough teams and not enough energy.

The Wolves ran into a buzz saw of competition in their second week of action, falling to three top-tier opponents - Port Angeles, Bainbridge and Klahowya - in the span of four days.

Sequim dropped a 6-1 decision to rival Port Angeles on Sept. 14 as Roughrider midfielder Abbie Moseley netted five goals, three of them in the first half.

Kyla Hall scored the Wolves' only goal, her fourth of the season, that halved the Port Angeles lead at 2-1 in the 19th minute.

The win gave P.A. first-year coach Scott Moseley his second win; between 2005-2008, the Roughriders had just one victory.

"I see (the Roughriders) as a solid, mature team and we're very young," Sequim coach Enid Halewyn said. "Abbie (Moseley) is such a great playmaker."

A day later, Sequim was at the wrong end of an 8-0 non-league game with Bainbridge Island.

On Sept. 17, Sequim battles Klahowya at home. The much-improved Eagles stunned the Wolves 7-0 behind three goals by Jordan Dixon and a pair of scores from Acaia Cook.

"I just think we had nothing left," said Halewyn, who along with a number of her players was dealing with an illness by Thursday's contest. "Three intense games in one week are too much ... (but) it wasn't without effort."

The Wolves were scheduled to play at home against Kingston on Sept. 22 - results were unavailable at press time.

Sequim takes on Port Townsend's Redskins on the road on Sept. 24, the first of three consecutive away games.
