The Pirates needed this one.

Following a pair of tough, winless contests a week ago, Peninsula's Pirates found a way to get back in the win column, defeating the visiting Edmonds Tritons 3-1 on Sept. 16.

Peninsula opened scoring at the 16-minute mark when Patrick Wolverton found teammate Steve Williams in front of the net. Williams, the sophomore forward from Kenya, found the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Peninsula lead.

The Pirates made it 2-0 a few minutes later when Jay Kang headed the ball into the middle where Wolverton settled it, turned and drove it past Edmonds keeper Dorian Lair into the left side of the goal.

Peninsula increased its 2-0 halftime lead about 20 minutes into the second half when Williams got his second score of the match off a fine feed from Connor Taylor.

Edmonds squelched the shutout a minute later when the Pirates failed to clear a ball in front of their own goal and Thomas Sheets found the net, marring an otherwise solid effort from Pirate keeper Alec Risk and the P.C. defense.

Peninsula travels to Pierce (Tacoma) for another nonconference match on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The Pirates are on the road Sept. 26 at Spokane and at Olympic (Bremerton) on Sept. 30 before an Oct. 3 home contest versus No 1-ranked Walla Walla.
