SHS football

tryouts set

Tryouts and practices for Sequim High School football starts at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at the high school practice fields, 601 N.S equim Ave.

Players need a completed physical form.

Sign-up and registration forms are available at the main high school office Aug. 17-19.

New community

tennis times set

Open tennis play in Port Angeles has new times.

At 5 p.m. Wednesdays is community tennis time at the Peninsula College tennis courts, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

At 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, play is open at Erickson Park on Race Street.

At noon, community play is open at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.



Auburn golfer gets ace

Don Lapinski of Auburn sank a hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course on Aug. 4. Lapinski used an 8-iron to drive the fourth hole's 150 yards for his first ace. Three other golfers from Auburn witnessed the feat.



Chace, Goodman get aces on same day

Golfers at The Cedars at Dungeness saw two hole-in-one shots last Saturday.

Ken Chace and Carol Goodman each sank aces on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Goodman used a 7-iron to drive the 105-yard hole No. 11. It was her fourth lifetime hole-in-one. Gill Goodman of Sequim and Paul and Teresa Goodman of Bellevue witnessed the effort.

Chace got his third lifetime hole-in-one using a 9-iron to drive the 123-yard eighth hole. Marlene Erickson of Sequim, Mark and Susan Mielke of Tacoma and Gary and Maureen Koss of Richmond, N.C., witnessed Chace's shot.



Pirate tryouts

set for Friday

Tryouts for Peninsula College's fall soccer squad are set for 8-10 a.m., 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at the college soccer fields, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

An informational meeting for the upcoming season and tryout is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, also at the fields.

SkyRidge hosts annual 'Cougar' tourney

The eighth-annual North Olympic Cougar Golf Tournament is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Aug. 30, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Hosted by the North Olympic Peninsula Alumni Association, Washington State University Alumni Association and SkyRidge, the tourney cost is $50 per person. The fee includes lunch, golfing, range balls, prizes and KPs. Honey pots are $20 extra; carts are $12 per seat.



National parks

offer free weekend

A walk in the park is free for one August weekend for anyone visiting national parks across the country, including Olympic National Park.

All 391 national parks offer free admission this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16.

The entrance fee waiver does not affect fees for activities such as camping, reservations, tours, or concessions.

Wolfpups football opens fall registration

Wolfpups Football and Cheerleading are accepting registrations for the fall 2009 season online at www.go-wolfpups.com.

Wolfpups is the youth football and cheer program for Sequim youths.

SARC offers free

circuit training

The Sequim Aquatic Recreation Center is offering a free circuit room orientation this summer at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Preregistration is required; maximum enrollment is six.

Participants must be at least 16 years old and may register by calling SARC at 683-3344, x16.

Orientations run through Aug. 27.



SHS cross country washes cars for funds

Sequim High School cross country team members host a car wash from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Chase Bank, formerly Washington Mutual Bank, 680 W. Washington St.

The event raises fund for traveling to a competition in Seaside, Ore., later this year.
