There's logjam atop the Olympic League standings and only a pair of wins by their class 3A foes last week kept Sequim from joining the fray.

The Olympic Trojans scored in four of the first five innings to top Sequim 7-2 on April 24, sending the Wolves to their second consecutive loss and dropping them four full games behind league-leading Kingston.

Zach Bird and Chris Groat had two hits each as the Trojans from Silverdale touched up Wolves pitchers for eight hits while Olympic pitcher Elliott Thorson held Sequim to just five hits in a complete game win. Thorson added seven strikeouts.

Drew Rickerson was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Preston McFarlen had a double and RBI and Matt Holloway had a double for Sequim in the loss.

The Wolves (6-7 in league, 8-8 overall) still have a two-and-a-half-game lead on North Mason as of April 27 for the league's third and final district playoff berth with three games left in the season.

The Wolves were scheduled to host Klahowya on April 27 - results were unavailable at press time.

Sequim takes on Port Townsend at home on May 1 and plays at Port Angeles on May 4 to finish the regular season.

The district playoffs begin May 12 with two winner-advances, loser-out games. With the No. 3 seed, the Wolves travel to take on the No. 2 Nisqually League team.



Vikings survive big Sequim comeback

This game had more hits than a Jackie Chan double feature.

Sequim's Wolves rocked North Kitsap pitching for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 15-15, only to see the Vikings score another five in the top of the eighth and win the league contest 20-25 on April 22.

Rickerson doubled and drove in three runs, Matt Rief was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Jeremie Oliver hit a double for two RBIs and Holloway had the game-tying, two-run double in the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

North Kitsap's Andy Smith homered, drove in six runs and scored four times, leading a 20-hit Viking attack.

The Wolves also committed six errors in the loss.

Smith nabbed the win in relief while Matt Bereiter, one of the Olympic League's top hitters, took the loss for Sequim.



Wolves make quick work of Knights

If there were any question of whether Bremerton would upset Sequim for the Knights' first win of the year, it was answered early.

Sequim scored seven runs in the first inning and gave up just four hits on the mound in a 12-1 demolishing of their 3A foes from Kitsap County.

Rickerson was 2-for-2 with a triple and RBI, Jason Baker had two hits and two runs, Anthony Washington drove in two runs with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and Ben Omdal drove in two runs.
