All it took was a little extra time.

Sequim's Travis Decker scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to give Sequim a 10-9 win against rival North Mason on April 17.

After building a 9-5 lead after five innings, the Wolves saw Bulldogs batters scratch across two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh before putting a run across in the eighth.

Spencer Middleton paced the offense with four hits, including a double and three RBIs, while Jason Baker had three hits and three RBIs. Isaac Yamamoto had a fine day at the dish as well, collecting three hits - one of them a triple - two RBIs and two runs. Drew Rickerson was 2-for-5 with two steals and two runs scored.

Jeremie Oliver picked up the win in relief.

Sequim (5-5 in Olympic League, 7-6 overall) has a three-game lead and tiebreaker advantage over North Mason for the Olympic League's third and final playoff berth to districts.

The Wolves were scheduled to host Bremerton on April 20 - results were unavailable at press time. They take on North Kitsap on April 22 and Olympic on April 24, both contests at home.



Gillis shuts

down Redskins

A close win against a league rival was just what the Wolves needed.

Thanks to Alex Gillis, it's exactly what they got with a 7-5 win at Port Townsend.

Gillis went the distance and chalked up 14 strikeouts, walked four and gave up just six hits for his third win of 2009.

Rickerson was 3-for-3 with a double, Baker had a triple and three RBIs and Matt Rief was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The Redskins managed to plate two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh but couldn't complete the rally.

The teams meet again May 1 in Sequim, the Wolves' final home game of the season.



Kingston tops Sequim

in home-and-home 'series'

The first game had Buccaneers fans coming out of their seats in the final inning.

The second had them leaving early.

For the second time in three days, Kingston managed to top the Wolves, but the April 13 win was quite different from the thriller during the weekend.

The Bucs used a 15-hit attack to blast the Wolves 18-4 in a five-inning, mercy-rule shortened ballgame - a stark contrast to the 12-11 Kingston comeback the previous Saturday.

The Bucs scored six runs in the second, four in the fourth and seven in the fifth.

Sequim's Rickerson was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, Matt Bereiter was 3-for-3 and Yamamoto was 1-for-2 with a double, RBI and run scored. Chris O'Bryant added a pinch-hit RBI single.
