Kingston, last year's Olympic League 2A champs, are well on their way to another crown.

Friday night, the Buccaneers made sure by halftime they weren't about to be upset by the struggling Sequim Wolves.

Kingston sophomore Sophia Baetz scored 22 points to lead Kingston to an 87-34 victory against the visiting Sequim squad, a team still searching for their first win in the 2008-2009 season.

Senior Lauryn Garrett led the Wolves with 12 points while Sunma Agostine and Lea Hopson added six points each.

Kingston led 25-6 after the first quarter and 49-12 by halftime.

Sequim was scheduled to take on Port Angeles, the Olympic League 3A leaders, on Feb. 3.

The Wolves (0-12 in league, 0-15 overall) host Bainbridge on Feb. 7 in a nonleague game, then travel to Poulsbo to take on North Kitsap Feb. 10. The Wolves then join the boys in an away contest Feb. 13 against North Mason.

Redskins dominate league match-up

No one wants to quit when he's losing and no one wants to quit when he's winning, a famous music composer once wrote.

Case in point: Sequim Wolves' girls basketball squad, despite heading toward the 14th loss of the season, kept battling to the end.

Port Townsend's Redskins took control early and hardly let up in a 62-33 victory Jan. 27, keeping the Wolves from their first victory of the season.

Ilsa Barrett recorded a potent double-double with 16 points and 10 steals while teammate Alyx Coppenrath also had 16 points.

Despite three first-half fouls, Agostine led Sequim with nine points and four steals. Garrett added eight points while Persephone Nelson added a team-high seven rebounds and two assists.

Sequim (0-11 in league, 0-14 overall) committed turnovers and shot just 14-of-48 from the field (29 percent). The Redskins out-rebounded Sequim 49-28, nearly half of those rebounds coming on the offensive end.

The Port Townsend win gave the Redskins a season sweep.
