In their newest contest with the green-and-white, Sequim's purple-and-gold clad girls hoopsters are feeling a little black-and-blue.

Port Angeles used a crisp passing attack and dominated the boards for an 86-28 win in Sequim Saturday night, keeping the Wolves from their first win of the season.

The Roughriders used a 24-0 run spanning the first and second quarters that transformed a one-point Sequim lead into a runaway P.A. win.

Sophomore guard Jessica Madison scored 30 points and swiped five steals to lead Port Angeles.

Sequim got eight points, four rebounds and three steals from Lauryn Garrett while Lea Hopson had seven points and a team-high three assists, but the Wolves' 34 turnovers and deficit on the boards were far too much to overcome. Port Angeles got 55 rebounds, 28 on the offensive end, to Sequim's 24. Roughrider Shelby Napiontek had 13 rebounds on her own.

Sequim looked to stay in the game early, getting back-to-back buckets from Garrett, Sunma Agostine and Kathryn Roeber for a 6-5 lead just 2:35 into the game.

But Madison scored nine of Port Angeles' 24-point run, helping P.A. to secure a 43-12 halftime lead.

Agostine had six points while Alex Rose-Albert had two blocks and four rebounds in the loss.

It was the third home game in a week for the Wolves, but home court was not terribly kind to Sequim. On Friday evening, the Wolves fell 49-31 to North Kitsap. Garrett had eight points and Agostine had seven points in the loss.

On Jan. 6, Kingston sophomore guard Sophia Baetz scored a school-record 38 points and outscored the Wolves in the Bucs' victory at Sequim's Rick Kaps Gymnasium.

Rose-Albert led the Wolves in scoring for the first time, netting eight points. Hopson scored six points and Agostine added four points.

Sequim was slated to take on Bremerton at home on Jan. 13 - results were unavailable at press time. Sequim takes on Olympic in Silverdale on Jan. 16.

Best SHS game ever? — revisited

For those of you keeping up with the blog, I’ve posted a few times about my favorite Sequim prep games these last 10 years. I was thumbing through the old files for this one, and thought it might be fun to revisit one of SHS’s best football games of all time.

Don’t get me wrong: Reclassifying prep teams is, in general, a good thing. But THIS isn’t going to work.
