Calling all Wolves! Calling all Wolves! That familiar "howl" is back.

The ninth-annual Welcome Back Wolfpack Jamboree basketball extravaganza is scheduled for Nov. 29.

For $30, former players suit up, break out into teams and relive those hardcourt memories by playing a series of games during the day, then take on Sequim's varsity boys squad a night before hometown fans.

"For me personally, this is always a high point of my year," says Larry Hill, tournament organizer, former head coach and current assistant coach for the Sequim Wolves' boys varsity team.

Last year's jamboree saw about 30 participants. Most years, the event sees several members of the 3A state championship runner-up 1988 squad and the 1980 team that finished third at state.

This year's event follows the same format as last year. Interested former players who want to form their own team are asked to have a minimum of six players and get rosters to tourney organizers by Nov. 25. Players can sign up as singles players and be placed on a preregistered team.

Those who still have enough energy left after the alumni tournament may register for the evening event: Hill and Art Green, the tournament leaders, select two teams to play the Wolfpack varsity in the evening for the main event at about 6 p.m.

There is no charge for admission to watch the nightcaps but donations will be accepted, Hill said.

Fees and donations help fund Sequim Youth Basketball.

In addition to the jamboree, former Wolf Jeff Pedersen's own SkyRidge Golf Course hosts the annual Rick Kaps Scholarship Scramble, a four-person scramble set for a 9:30 a.m. start on Friday, Nov. 28.

The tourney features three divisions; entry fee is $220 per team. Proceeds from the tournament go directly into the Rick Kaps Memorial Scholarship fund, one that Hill distributes to graduating seniors each year.

Best SHS game ever? — revisited

For those of you keeping up with the blog, I’ve posted a few times about my favorite Sequim prep games these last 10 years. I was thumbing through the old files for this one, and thought it might be fun to revisit one of SHS’s best football games of all time.

Don’t get me wrong: Reclassifying prep teams is, in general, a good thing. But THIS isn’t going to work.
