SkyRidge hosts SHS, pre-Christmas tourneys

SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, is the site of two special tournaments this holiday season.

On Friday, Nov. 28, SkyRidge hosts the Rick Kaps Scholarship four-person scramble. Entry is $220 per team, with only the first 20 registrations accepted. Entry fee includes

T-shirt, gourmet meal and scholarship donation for Sequim High School scholarships. The tourney begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

SkyRidge's pre-Christmas 27 tourney is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, Dec. 6. The tourney format is two-person teams with three different, nine-hole competitions. Cost is $80 per team with food and prizes included. The first 28 teams to sign up are in.

Former P.C. soccer

star gets honor

With two goals and one assist last week, Concordia junior Jon Larsen of Sedro-Woolley was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Larsen was instrumental in the Cavs extending their winning streak to six matches with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Evergreen.

Larsen played at Peninsula College from 2006-2007.



Hoops tryouts for girls

Basketball tryouts for a fourth-grade girls Amateur Athletic Union team are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Nov. 18 at Dry Creek Elementary School, west of Port Angeles.

Practices and tryouts are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the school.

Athletes are asked to bring their own basketball and dress prepared to play.

Winterfest events set

The 2008 Winterfest events begin at 5 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Vern Burton Center, 321 E. Fifth St., Port Angeles, with an evening of food, film and fun.

Following dinner and the chance to meet with winter sports vendors is a showing of the newest Warren Miller film, "Children of Winter."

Tickets are $40 and are available at Brown's Outdoors, Swain's General Store, Port Book and News, and Necessities and Temptations. Tickets at the door are $45.

On Nov. 22, the Vern Burton Center hosts the Ski and Snowboard Swap. For sellers, the gear drop-off is at 8:30 a.m. Doors open at 11 a.m. for purchasers. Cost is $3 per person or $7 for a family. At 7 p.m. that night is a second showing of Miller's "Children of Winter;" tickets are $10 at the door.
