Early on this season,

Sequim's opponents are all wet.

The Wolves took first place in nine of 11 events as they blasted host Port Townsend 106-58 on Oct. 2, running Sequim's season record to 3-0 in Olympic League action and 4-0 overall.

Rachel Hardy managed two first-place swims and earned district meet-qualifying times in both the 500 free (6:28.7) and 100 back (1:12.0), while Louise Showers earned a pair of district meet qualifying times, in the 100 free (107.2, first place) and 50 free (30.22, second place).

Sarah Keltonic also earned a ticket to districts with a 100 fly time of 1:16.9, topping her previous best time by four seconds. She also won the 200 individual medley in 2:51.5.

Rachel Hughes topped her previous 50 free time by four seconds with a 33.04 and won the 200 free with a 2:39.1 mark.

The Wolves got strong swims from new swimmers, including Autumn Kessinger in the 100 back (1:36.6, a personal best by 10 seconds) and Brooke Ansotegui in the 100 free (1:19.9, a personal best by 10 seconds).

Two days later, the Wolves got a taste of some top competition at the 25-team Mukilteo Invitational in Federal Way.

The Wolves finished 21st as a team, led by a pair of top-20 finishes: Hardy in the 50 free (27.09, 19th); Sequim's 200 free relay team of Hardy, Keltonic, Showers and Gianna Vennetti (1:57.8, 20th); and freshman Rose Hawkins' eighth-place finish in diving (163.35 points).

Vennetti took 22nd in the 100 fly (1:09.6) and 25th in the 500 free (6:23.2) while Hardy finished 24th in the 100 free (1:01.4), nearly a state meet-qualifying time.

Mercer Island won the meet with 511 points, with Marysville-Pilchuck taking second at 447.5 points and Bainbridge, one of Sequim's opponents this season, taking third with 410 points.

Up next for the Wolves is Port Angeles Oct. 9 at home; Sequim is at Bainbridge Oct. 14 and at Olympic (Silverdale) on Oct. 16.
