At least the season’s nearly over.

With just one on-the-field win in two months, the Peninsula Pirates are winding down the season against some of the top teams in the NWAACC conference — and are paying for it.

The Pirates fell twice at Bellevue on May 4 by scores of 8-0 and 11-1 and were slated to take on the league-leading Bulldogs in Bellevue for another doubleheader May 5 — results were unavailable at press time.

P.C. managed just eight hits in the two games.

In game one, Bellevue’s Michelle Ruby and Dawn Norcross hit home runs, sending Sierra McCoy to the loss.

In game two, Peninsula’s Kayla Ralston smacked a homer for P.C.’s lone run. McCoy dropped to 2-23.

On May 3, the Pirates got all they could handle against Olympic, the NWAACC North’s second-best squad. Peninsula managed just one hit in game one against Ranger pitcher Erika Quint — a single by Kaylee Baumstark — as P.C. fell 8-0.

In game two, Peninsula fell 10-2 to Olympic but managed seven hits. Sam Flett and Melissa Lusk were both 2-for-2 while Kelly Henderson a double and Kelly Henderson and Missy Minor each had singles. Olympic got two home runs from Quint and one each from Amy Renfrow and Keri Leaverton

Peninsula did get a break earlier in the week when Edmonds had to forfeit a pair of games, giving the Pirates their second two-game forfeit sweep of the Tritons this season.

Pirates drop 2 to Everett

Early on in both games, it looked as if Peninsula had a chance to break its losing streak.

By the end, both games were all-too-familiar blowouts the Pirates are accustomed to.

Everett scored 29 runs on 28 hits and 10 P.C. errors as they swept the April 29 doubleheader in Port Angeles, 16-3 in game one and 13-2 in the nightcap.

“Our bats started out strong each game but then became flat as the innings went on,” Peninsula coach Heather Sankey said. “The girls continue to work hard every day.”

In game one, Peninsula jumped to a 3-2 lead before Everett scored three in the third, three in the fourth and eight runs in the top of the sixth.

Henderson highlighted the Peninsula offense with a double and two RBIs while Damaris Craig had an RBI hit and Sindi Morrison and Flett each had hits.

McCoy took the loss on the mound, striking out one Trojan and walking three.

In game two, the Pirates and Trojans were tied at 2-2 until the fifth inning, when Everett ran off innings of four, two and five runs.

Morrison took the loss, striking out two and walking two. McCoy came on to strike out four Trojans.

Henderson, Craig and Bethany Holt each had hits for the Pirates.

Jenna Kirksey and Tamara Priebe hit home runs for Everett.
