Sequims prep hoops teams played 54 miles from each other last Tuesday, but the results seemed worlds apart.
While the girls were in the midst of clobbering Klahowya by 40 points, the boys were locked in a fierce battle that could have given the Wolves a chance to edge closer to Klahowyas grasp on third place among Olympic League 2A teams.
But Eagle Darrell Newman sank a three-pointer from the corner as time expired in Silverdale to give Klahowyas boys a 67-64 win for its sixth league win.
The last-second shot spoiled 20-point, seven-rebound performances from Sequims Nic Thacker and Ary Webb. Webb sank four three-pointers and combined with Thacker to go 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Sequims Mike Silliman scored 10 points and had three blocks while reserve Reed Omdall chipped in with three steals and four assists, but the Wolves couldnt overcome a 22-10 Eagle run in the second quarter and 21 game turnovers.
Andre Moore led Klahowya with 26 points and four steals but it was his fifth and final assist to Newman that gave the Eagles the three-point win.
Sequims girls (4-6 in league, 5-9 overall) continued Klahowyas miserable, winless season with a 76-35 drubbing in Sequim.

Sequim vs. P.A., late
Results of both Sequims boys and girls basketball games against Port Angeles Jan. 29 were too late for this edition. See sequimgazette.com for game stories and results.
Edgar Martinez, in his first year of eligibility, didn’t make it into the Hall of Fame. No, it’s not a travesty, but it’s not right either, and hopefully sports writers will get a brain some day and put the guy in.
For those of you keeping up with the blog, I’ve posted a few times about my favorite Sequim prep games these last 10 years. I was thumbing through the old files for this one, and thought it might be fun to revisit one of SHS’s best football games of all time.
The Christmas/winter holiday break is always a little goofy here at the Sequim Gazette sports desk (i.e. my desk). Most high school sports hut down, as do most of the area’s golf, volleyball, running and other recreational sports programs.
My first season of fantasy football is over, having been knocked out by an admittedly formidable foe called “Did I Win?” The answer: yes, you won. And I didn’t.
