Nancy Jean Brooks
A memorial will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Sunland Golf & Country Club for Sequim resident Nancy Jean Brooks, who died March 28, 2012, at the age of 74.
She was born Aug. 15, 1937, in Ketchikan, Alaska, to Edward M. and Violet R. Routley Kounkel.
She married Harland G. Brooks on June 6, 1987. He preceded her in death in 1993. She retired in 1996. Before moving to Sequim, she lived in Bellevue.
She is survived by her sister Patricia L. Fizer, of Sacramento, Calif.; brother Gerald E. Kounkel, of Kelso; nephews Chris Kounkel and Steve Kounkel, of New York; Craig Kounkel and Erick Kounkel, of Washington; and five other nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim; or the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.


William Frederick Cusick
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim, for Sequim resident William Frederick (Bill) Cusick, who died March 10, 2012, at the age of 85.
He was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Kalispell, Mont., to Harold and Carolyn Cusick. He graduated Puyallup High School in 1945. After military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Washington State University.
He held engineering and management positions in the private and public sectors, including with Miles Sand &Gravel from 1963-1985.
He and his wife, Vi Tuttle Cusick, raised nine children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Yvonne, and his daughter Kathleen Willems.
He is survived by his wife, Vi Cusick, of Sequim; sister Jean Gerald; sons William Cusick, Stephen Cusick, Charles Cusick, Thomas Cusick and Rick Murdock; daughters Elaine Stanley, Connie Spinks and Maria Adair; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.

 

 

Louise May Shipman
A memorial service will be held in Arkansas during April for Sequim resident Louise May Shipman, who died March 27, 2012, at the age of 91.
She was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Mena, Ark., to Charles S. and Villa Abbott Anderson. She attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas.
She married Paul Shipman. They later divorced.
A homemaker and a seamstress, she lived much of her life in Arkansas, moving to California in 1960. She moved to
Sequim 19 years ago and was active in the First Baptist Church and the Sequim Senior Activity Center.
She is survived by sons George L. Shipman of Mena, Ark.; Joseph C. Shipman of Omaha, Neb.; and James R. Shipman of Upland, Calif.; daughters Carolyn J. Augustine of Gardiner; Joanna P. Saadoun of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Janice F. Parks of Gardiner; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

 

 

Ruth H. McGuire
Port Angeles resident Ruth H. McGuire died March 26, 2012, at the age of 99.
She was born Oct. 14, 1912, in Riverside, Mont., to Martin and Hilda Pederson Paulson.

Elenore Odette Ballard
Port Angeles resident Elenore Odette Ballard died March 28, 2012, at the age of 85. She was born Jan. 4, 1927.
At her prior request, no service was planned.
