Fred Bedford
March 9, 1923  - February 29, 2012

Fred Bedford was called home February 29, 2012, after nearly 89 years of life on earth.  He was born on March 9, 1923, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Edgar and Gladys Bedford.  The second oldest of four, he graduated from West High School in 1941.  He then attended Ripon College for the next three years, until called to duty by the Army Air Force (AAF) in the summer of 1944.  In the AAF he became a second Lieutenant Flight Control Officer specializing in meteorology.  His assignment was to help planes take off and land in less-than-ideal weather.
Once discharged in the summer of 1946, Fred resumed his studies – this time at University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1948 and then a Medical degree in 1956.  Fred started his medical practice as a general practitioner in Rangley and Norwood CO, and Minneapolis, MN, then went back for training in anesthesiology in Milwaukee, WI.  On becoming an anesthesiologist, he practiced at Emanuel Hospital for 10 years, then at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, NM, for 9 more.
Fred was married to Nancy Ann Glezen for 59 years, until she died last year.  He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Lois and June, and survived by his third sister, Janet.  He is also survived by his three children, Stephen, Andrew, and Jennifer; and nine grandchildren, Stephen, Jack, Harrison, Savannah, Anne, Katherine, Sarah, James and Alexander.
Fred Bedford exemplified all the qualities of the Greatest Generation and WWII veterans.  He was very dedicated to serving his country, his family, the Methodist church and helping others. Fred went on several mission trips including Mercy Ships, Honduras, and Oaxaca, Mexico, and he helped make parts for Personal Energy Transportation (PET) bicycles for amputees.  He was on the board of the local Habitat for Humanity in Sequim. Fred’s one enduring hobby was his love of sailing; begun as a boy on the lakes in Minnesota and continuing through his retirement.
All of us loved Fred and will miss him very much.
A memorial service will be held for Fred Bedford on March 17th at 1:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Fred’s name to Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave, Sequim, WA, 98382.
