Cecil E. Elliott

At his prior request there will be no formal service for Cecil E. Elliott, who died February 20, 2009, at Modesto, CA. He was 95 years of age.

Mr. Elliott was born in Port Angeles, February 28, 1913 to Hazel Isbell Elliott and Leet R. Elliott. Cecil Elliott's grandparents homesteaded land along the Elwha River and he lived part of his childhood and youth there. He also lived in Port Angeles in a house his father built at the corner of Laurel and Lauridsen Boulevard, which is now occupied by Albertson's grocery. He attended the old Washington School where the Post Office is now located, and graduated from Roosevelt High School, where the courthouse stands.

After high school graduation Mr. Elliott went to Northern California and worked as a logger for a number of years, then as a wholesale distributor for an oil company. In l965 he went to Heald Business College in San Francisco and received an accounting degree. He followed this line of work in the (California) Bay Area until retirement.

Mr. Elliott's lifelong interest and hobby has been music. He played trombone in high school and community bands, but his favorite activity was playing swing music of the Big Band era using his tenor sax. He met his wife, Edith, when they both played in a big band in northern California. They were married November 19, 1949 in Dunsmuir, CA at the home of Edith's parents. They continued playing for several years after marriage. The Elliotts celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November, 1999 in Reno, NV.

Many years later, after retiring to Sequim in 1978, they both played in a small dance band called "The Reminiscers", featuring music of the forties. The band played for many local events and dances in this area for about ten years.

In addition to his wife Edith, now in Vermont, he is survived by two daughters, Arloeen (Skip) Sciaroni of Los Banos, CA, and Susan (August) Elliott of East Calais, Vermont, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
