Daniel Ralph Heassler Sr.
A committal service with full military honors was held for Sequim resident Daniel Ralph Heassler Sr., who died Feb. 2, 2009, at the age of 58 of complications from emphysema.
He was born March 24, 1950, in Puyallup to Ernest Ralph and Sally Louise Lemm Heassler.
He married Eilene LaRee Linderman in Port Angeles.
Mr. Heassler studied pre-med and advanced studies in emergency medical technology and mobile intensive coronary care at Tacoma and Olympic colleges.
Later, he studied art at Peninsula College.
He was a national registered paramedic, a Washington state certified paramedic and an American Heart Association A.C.L.S. provider. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1968 as a medical corpsman, hospital ward technician and heavy vehicle driver. He was stationed in Texas and Germany. He was an emergency medical technician III medic and member of Advanced Life Support Team, and a health and medical instructor in Tacoma and Port Angeles.
He owned and operated Westside Video & Tanning and King's Way Painting and started Coats for Kids and Candy Cane on the Peninsula.
Throughout his life, he explored and developed his interest in the arts, especially photography.
His work is in several private and public collections.
He was a member of Independent Bible Church in Port Angeles and Hurricane Ridge Ski Patrol.
He also was Clallam County EMS Council chairman and HIV Task Force chairman.
Mr. Heassler is survived by his wife, Eilene LaRee Heassler; sons and daughter-in-law Daniel and Brandy Heassler; Robert Heassler; Kenneth Blomberg; and Justin Taylor; daughters and sons-in-law Rhonda and Michael Dedinsky; Kylie Heassler; and Emily and Scott Fisher; parents Ernest Heassler and Sally Lemm; parents-in-law Skip Linderman and Sharyl Slinsen; brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Donna Heassler; sisters and brother-in-law Katheryn and Marv Miller and Kristen Eagle; and nine grandchildren.

Earl Hansen
A memorial service was held for Sequim resident Earl Hansen, who died Jan. 30, 2009, at the age of 94.
He was born May 10, 1914, in Sanger, N.D., to John and Olena Hansen.
He married Hazel Hansen on Jan. 14, 1939, in Vancouver, Wash.
He was a pipe fitter and welder in Longview; Mesa, Ariz.; and Sequim.
Mr. Hansen enjoyed hunting, square dancing, travel, baseball and family.
He was a member of Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Hansen; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Sharon Hansen of Sequim; and two grandchildren.

Hattie Rosen
No service was scheduled at the request of Port Angeles resident Hattie Rosen, who died Jan. 30, 2009, at the age of 98.
She was born July 16, 1910, in Bladen, Neb., to Emery Arthur and Alice Kembel Crom.
A marriage to Fred Maranville in 1930 ended in divorce in 1946.
A marriage to Chet Wolf in 1962 ended in divorce in 1965.
She married Arthur Rosen in 1975. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She moved from Beatrice, Neb., to Portland, Ore., in 1937 and worked for 1st National Bank. In 1963, she began working at the 1st National Bank Branch in Port Angeles.
She took great pride in her home and garden and loved family "get-togethers." She drove up until her 80s and took great pleasure in driving out on Ediz Hook.
She was a member of the Eagles.
Mrs. Rosen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Lonnie and Diane Maranville of Everett; daughters and sons-in-law Lorraine and Ray Robbins of Damascus, Ore.; and Gloria and Herb Rempel of Port Angeles, seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren..
She was preceded in death by her sister Esther Boughtin.

Emma Lucile Bilyeu
Flaman Linden
A service was held for
Sequim resident Emma Lucile Bilyeu Flaman Linden, who died Jan. 31, 2009, at the age of 94 of complications from Parkinson's disease.
She was born July 10, 1914, in Crabtree, Ore., to John Nathan and Emma Catherine Shelton Bilyeu.
She graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Ore., in 1933.
She married Henry Paul Flaman on June 27, 1936, in Portland, Ore. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1996, in Sequim.
She married Arthur Linden on Sept. 11, 1996, in Sequim.
She was a resident of Portland, Ore., from 1936-1944; a small farm outside Oregon City, Ore. from 1944-1947; and The Dalles, Ore., from 1947-1980, where her husband owned a grocery store. She and her husband moved to the north Olympic Peninsula in 1980 when her husband retired. They lived at Dominion Terrace until his death in 1996.
She loved to travel and accompanied her husband on many Independent Grocer Association board member trips, including one to Spain. They took Elderhostel vacations to Mexico and Alaska and also traveled to Germany, meeting his cousins. They had a succession of RVs and visited family and friends throughout the United States and Canada. The Lindens continued to travel as members of the "Holy Rollers" RV group.
Family was always the most important aspect of Mrs. Linden's life.
She was very proud to be part of an Oregon pioneer family.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sequim; Dominion Terrace Bridge Club and Sequim Prairie Grange.
Mrs. Linden is survived by her husband, Arthur Linden of Sequim; son Daniel Flaman of Modesto, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Pamela Flaman of Hansville; stepsons and daughters-in-law Carl and Paula Linden of Simi Valley, Calif.; Richard and Sonya Linden of Murrieta, Calif.; and David and Dianne Linden of Snohomish; daughter and son-in-law Sherrie Flaman and Val Kiefer of Dayton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Thelma Bilyeu; Vance Bilyeu; and Andrew and Frances Bilyeu; and sister and brother-in-law Wanda and Cecil Eichinger.

Joe Allen 'Pops' Beery
No service was reported for Sequim resident Joe Allen "Pops" Beery, who died Feb. 4, 2009, at the age of 63 of lymphoma.
He was born in 1945 and grew up in a large family, moving often to follow construction projects in eastern and western Washington.
He joined the Carpenters Union No. 13 at age 17 and became an apprentice carpenter.
By the age of 18, he was one of the youngest certified journeyman carpenters in the Seattle area.
He joned the Air Force Civil Engineers in 1964 and was assigned to Prime Beef, a front line construction team that built remote forward operating bases. While attached to Prime Beef he served in multiple locations in Vietnam.
He left the service in 1968 and purchased 10 acres on Blue Mountain Road. While on the peninsula, he worked as a logger for nine years, both conventional logging and also using draft horses for smaller jobs. Injuries stopped him from logging but led to his 17-year employment as a Sequim School District bus driver.
During his 40 years on Blue Mountain, he spent his spare time building a cabin.
He married his wife, Dale, on Aug. 12, 1985.
Mr. Beery's hobbies included reading, fishing, inventing and working in his two-acre garden.
He was an active volunteer during his sons' school years, working in youth programs including baseball, Sequim High ski school and other activities including pressing hundreds of gallons of fresh apple cider for school fundraising at the annual Sequim elementary Halloween fair.
He let young children press their own cider and his home was a refuge for struggling teens trying to find themselves.
He is survived by his wife, Dale Myles-Beery; sons Chris, Will, Trever and Jake, and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Beery.
Kenneth Floyd Russell Jr.
Port Angeles resident Kenneth Floyd Russell Jr., died Feb. 3, 2009, at the age of 57.
He was born July 13, 1951, in Fairfield, Calif., to Roberta Carol Sherman and Kenneth Floyd Russell.
