Robert Clair Shannon

A graveside service for Robert Clair Shannon will be held at

1 p.m. today, Jan. 28, at Gardiner Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Gardiner,

Mr. Shannon died Jan. 16, 2009, in his Gardiner-area home, at the age of 84.

He was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Eaton, Colo., to John White and Elizabeth Rickard Shannon.

A Pearl Harbor survivor, he was aboard the USS Pennsylvania battleship on the day of the attack.

He later was stationed on the USS Massachusetts for four years. He earned 14 battle stars in his career and a personal citation from the captain of the Massachusetts. He exited the Navy as a chief petty officer in 1947.

He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He moved to Seattle and completed millwork, cabinet and furniture making from Edison Technical in Seattle.

He met Nancy Jo Harrison in Seattle and they married in Issaquah on Dec. 11, 1948.

Mr. Shannon was the owner of Earth Services, Inc., an excavating company and he enjoyed buying and selling real estate.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Jo Ann Dodaro of Sequim and three grandchildren.

Linde Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.



Ann Iva Jolley Lillywhite

A private family service will be held for Sequim resident Ann Iva Jolley Lillywhite, who died Jan. 2, 2009, at 92, of pancreatic cancer.

She was born July 12, 1916, in the family farmhouse in Lovell, Wyo., to Haskell Shurtliff and Ellen Eliza Harrison Jolley.

She married John Duke Lillywhite in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1940 and spent most of her life in Washington.

Mrs. Lillywhite played and taught the piano. She accompanied many groups.

When her husband retired from Washington State University, they moved to the western part of the state.

In addition to caring for her family, she became involved in the Garden Club, Meals on Wheels, Children's Hospital Guild, Bainbridge Choral and Audubon Society.

She is survived by her husband, John; daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Erwin Jones of Sequim; Sharon and Bob Walker of Edmonds; and son and daughter-in-law Jack and Dee Lillywhite of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.



John Hummel Sr.

A memorial gathering for

Sequim resident John Hummel Sr. will be held Feb. 14 in Fort Atkinson, Wis. Mr. Hummel died Jan. 18, 2009, at the age of 81.

He was born May 7, 1927, in Fort Atkinson, to Leslie and Elsie Peters Hummel.

He served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii on the USS Admiralty Islands.

He is survived by his sons John Hummel of Las Vegas, Nev.; Michael Hummel of Oceanside, Calif.; Dennis Hummel of Fort Atkinson; Jerry Hummel of Fort Atkinson; daughters Gail Hummel and Mary Donkle of Roscoe, Ill.; sister Jean Hummel of Sequim and brother Joe Hummel of Cannon Beach, Ore.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



John 'Pete' Lawrence Peterson

Port Angeles resident John "Pete" Lawrence Peterson died Jan. 22, 2009, at the age of 91.

He was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Madras, India, to Robert LeRoy and Zella Alliger Peterson.

Wade Alexander

Chaney Jr.

A service was held for Port Angeles resident Wade Alexander Chaney Jr., who died Jan. 18, 2009, at the age of 21.

He was born June 4, 1987, in Port Angeles to Wade Alexander Chaney Sr. and Donna Marie Renfroe.

He married Amy Nicole Meldrum on Nov. 25, 2006.

Mr. Chaney worked for Safe Boats International.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Nicole Chaney; daughter Chloe Ann Chaney; mother Donna Marie Arnold; father-in-law and mother-in-law Eric and Veronica Meldrum; brother Kohry Chaney; brothers-in-law Chad Meldrum and Blake Meldrum; sisters Tina Chaney and Alanna Jacobson; and sister-in-law Chelsey Meldrum, all of Port Angeles

He was preceded in death by his father, Wade Alexander Chaney Sr. and sister Brinna Jacobson.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the account of Amy Chaney at First Security Bank of Washington in Port Angeles to assist the family.

Grace Elizabeth Jensen

Port Angeles resident Grace Elizabeth Jensen died Jan. 20, 2009, at the age of 83.

She was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Port Angeles to Waldo Shannon and Zada Florence Mowery Loucks.
