Brian Jones, Sequim Middle School principal, said more than 100 students had been absent each day since Oct. 26.
“More than the usual amount of kids have been out,” he said.
“This year we’ve had really good attendance, too — normally at about 50 (out).”
He said there is no threshold for when the middle school or any Sequim school would close.
“This would be handled at the administration level,” Jones said.
Absent staff hasn’t been a concern, he said, because only a few teachers have been out.
Absent students have not been contacted to learn the reason for their absence but school attendance has started to go back up through the week, Jones said.
