Senior Information and Assistance is sponsoring an all-day forum covering a variety of legal issues senior citizens are likely to face.

Family members, caregivers and friends of seniors are welcome to attend, as well as seniors themselves. Even those approaching retirement may find valuable planning information.

During post-retirement years, changes in health, employment, income and home ownership are likely to have some legal ramifications. Legal and financial professionals will present information and answer questions.

Finance, end of life

The morning sessions on financial issues include discussions of representative and protective payees, reverse mortgages, credit and debt counseling, and bankruptcy.

Topics in the afternoon relate to such end-of-life planning issues as advance directives, powers of attorney, guardianship, trusts, wills and Medicaid eligibility. Each panelist will make a brief presentation, followed by a question-and-answer period.

The Northwest Justice Project helps low-income people with noncriminal legal issues. It operates a toll-free telephone assistance service for people over 60 who need legal help with basic needs such as housing, income, medical care and family safety.

Light refreshments will be available during the day, but participants must make their own arrangements for lunch.

For more information, call Senior Information and Assistance at 452-3221.

The agency is part of the Olympic Area Agency on Aging that serves Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties.
