The Trey Green Guild raised more than $50,000 for Seattle Children's hospital at its fourth fundraiser June 13 at The Cutting Garden in Sequim, Attendance and donations have increased yearly.

Guild member Jami Wood said the group reaches its goal with donations and auction items.

The evening included local wine tasting, dinner and a story of accomplishment from 13-year-old Maddy Irwin, who is overcoming arthrogyposis, a rare joint shortening and muscle weakness disorder. This will be the first summer she will not be in a cast.

The event honors the memory of Trey Green who died on April 26, 2004, an hour and three minutes after his birth, due to complications of a diaphragmatic hernia.

Trey's parents and Sequim residents Art and Erin Green attended the gala with 243 other people.

"It's an honor to do this," Erin said.

"The community has embraced us and this cause."

She is one of the 20 guild members who organized the event.

Guild member Lindsay Fox said she came to the event last year and saw how successful it had become, impacting so many people, so she wanted to be a part of it.

Members are from Sequim, Port Angeles and Silverdale.

"Many hands make light work," said guild member Shawnra Cash.

"Many people have links to the hospital, so this is one way we help."

Funds raised go specifically to the uncompensated care program, which helps families without insurance pay for medical expenses.

Information from Seattle Children's said in 2008 the hospital provided $86 million in uncompensated care and the hospital expects more than $100 million in need this year.

"If we can help one family not go through this, then it'll be worth it," Erin said.
