Hospital Guild gives $26,000 to OMC

At its annual luncheon and style show May 27, the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild presented more than $26,000 to three organizations making a difference in the community.

The Dungeness Health and Wellness Clinic received $15,000 for operating expenses; Olympic Medical Center's physical therapy and rehabilitation department received $4,047 for a recumbent stepper; and OMC's Cancer Center received $7,000 to furnish and outfit an additional treatment room.

Jean Janis, president of the guild, introduced those accepting the gifts:

_ Rose Gibbs, executive director, and Leslie Lauren, development director, of the Dungeness Health and Wellness Clinic;

_ Eric Palenik, director of the physical therapy and rehabilitation department at OMC;

_ Tara Lock, director of the OMC Cancer Center.

This year the guild also is awarding $2,500 scholarships to each of the following students in medically related fields for 2009-2010:

Timothy Dorsey, biochemistry; Lesley Everett, doctor of medicine; David Lewis, doctor of osteopathy; Anna Fox, pre-medicine; Tracy Kuhn, doctorate in physical therapy; Marissa Loosely, physical therapy; Hannah Onsted, bachelor's degree in nursing; Jaime Rife, dental hygiene; and Leanne Schaafsma, master's degree in occupational therapy.

The guild also will donate $2,500 to Peninsula College for student scholarships in its nursing program.

The guild has supported Clallam County Fire District 3, Olympic Medical Center, and its scholarship program from membership dues and proceeds from its thrift shop at 204 W. Bell St. The store and accepts outright donations and consigned items.

Since it was formed in 1970, the guild has generated more than $1.3 million.
