Community Holy Week services will start at 12:10 p.m. Monday-Friday, April 6-10 at five local Christian churches. The 45-minute services will feature music and/or skits by the host churches with sermons by alternating local pastors.

A light lunch, typically soup and sandwiches, will be offered to participants following the services. A donation basket will be available benefiting the 2009 Sequim High School graduating class' baccalaureate dinner and service.

Holy Week is based on the five days Jesus spent in Jerusalem prior to his crucifixion. Local pastors will speak on topics such as Jesus' visit to Herod's temple and his Last Supper with his disciples.

"Each day highlights those events and puts them into a contemporary setting," said Pastor David Westman, from Sequim Worship Center.

The Holy Week services have been going in Sequim for at least 40 years, Westman said.

The Holy Week services are open to all. Services in the past have included churches from Deer Park to Gardiner. About 16 churches actively work on the services annually.

"This is another chance for the community to come together. It brings a bridge of pastors together with their churches," said Pastor Steve Welty from Glory House Fellowship.
