n The American Legion Evergreen Boys State program is looking for a male high school junior who is interested in government.
Evergreen Boys State simulates Washington state government. The "citizens" build their own government from the ground up. Elected officials and business leaders provide guidance and instruction.
The Sequim American Legion Post will pay most of the fees to participate and transportation to Central Washington University in Ellensburg the week of June 21-27. There is a possibility of scholarship money, four college credits and a chance to go to Boys Nation in Washington, D.C., in this program. Check out the Web site, www.evergreenboysstate.org, for the details. If you are interested in attending, e-mail me or call me at 683-6419.
n The pipers are coming! Thanks to the Marine Corps League, the VFW, the American Legion, the Davis family, Allen Roofing and others who have contributed generously to bring the Clan Gordon Pipe Band for the Irrigation Festival Parade! They will be near the front of the parade, marching with the veterans - helping us to stay in step.
n For future planning: There will be a recognition picnic for all veterans on May 23 at the Elks Lodge on Port Williams Road. This is sponsored by the Lloyd Strand fund. There will be food, and the music will be by Haywire. I will give more details in my May column. Please mark your calendars.
