Construction could begin next month on the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's medical clinic planned for two acres south of the Olympic Medical Center's Cancer Care Center, at 844 N. Fifth Ave.

The clinic, which could open as early as March 2010, will have a 23,000-square-foot first floor and 12,000-square-foot second floor.

Ann Hall, city building official, said the clinic's plans haven't completed the city's design review process.

The plans should have gone to the five design review board members by today, she said.

The board, established in December, reviews proposed commercial, industrial, mixed use and multifamily buildings with an eye toward "strengthening the importance of maintaining Sequim's rural character."

"There's a two-week review period until Feb. 25. Then I review all the comments and send them out to all the members," Hall said.

"If a majority of the members have a concern, then we meet to see if they can be resolved or else hold a public hearing.

"But I don't think we'll have to do that, everything looks good. The board's comments hopefully should reflect that. Then we will be able to issue a building permit by mid-March," she said.

The building's use complies with the area's C-II zoning, so no other public hearing would be necessary.
