Environmentally correct fun
Beverly Hoffman's column last week was above and beyond her usual expert gardening advice. She reached for and "nailed" a piece that was inspiring. It was so nice to be politely made aware of nature's self correcting and interconnecting rhythm. It makes trying to be more "environmentally correct" sound softer; almost like fun.

Put them in their place
I am so shocked that our own hometown high school band would be put at No. 99 in our own parade!
This is just not right. Does the person who is in charge of this not know correct parade etiquette? Perhaps they need a lesson. I kept my mouth shut several years ago when our own high school band was given the third-place award, but this has gone way too far.
Many, many parents work very hard throughout the years raising funds for band costs, trip payments, private lessons, etc. to see their children perform. They really look forward to seeing their children come down a parade route or to listen to them at a concert.
And their own town puts them near the end of their own parade? Do you put the Irrigation royalty at the end, too? What were you thinking?

Editor's note: Joe Borden, Irrigation Festival chairman, changed the position of the Sequim High School band to No. 47A.
'Tis passing strange
I can't understand why our state reps and WADOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) think we need more passing lanes between Discovery Bay and Sequim.
I always keep to the right when entering the "passing" lane sections even though I always drive the speed limit. The only people who pass me are those breaking the speed law!
What we really need are passing lanes at Palo Alto, Louella and Happy Valley. I know folks who could save time and gasoline by taking Happy Valley east of Sequim but do not because it is just too dangerous!

Letters Policy Your opinions on issues of community interest and your reaction to stories and editorials contained in your Sequim Gazette are important to us and to your fellow readers. Thus our rules relating to letters submitted for publication are relatively simple.
Letters are welcome. Letters exceeding 250 words are returned to the writer for revision. We strive to publish all letters.
Letters are subject to editing for spelling and grammar; we contact the writer when substantial changes are required, sending the letter back to the writer for revisions. Personal attacks and unsubstantiated allegations are not printed.
All letters must have a valid signature, with a printed name, address and phone number for verification. Only the name and town/community are printed.
Deadline for letters to appear in the next publication is noon Friday. Because of the volume of letters, not all letters are published the week they are submitted. Time-sensitive letters have a priority.
Letters are published subject to legal limitations relating to defamation and factual representation.
